Since
1980, Patti Rundall has worked for Baby Milk Action, campaigning
for legislation in the UK and worldwide and on campaigns
such as the Nestlé
Boycott, all in an effort to stop the unethical practices
of the baby food industry.
She
is also on the Humanitarian shortlist for the European Women
of Achievement Awards 2000, organised by European Union
of Women.
The
World Health Organisation and UNICEF estimate that reversing
the decline in breastfeeding could save the lives of 1.5
million infants around the world every year and call on
companies to abide by the marketing requirements set out
in World Health Assembly
Resolutions.
Baby
Milk Action, works to protect breastfeeding and infant health
and is the UK member of the global network, IBFAN.
For
the last 20 years Baby Milk Action has lobbied for effective
and transparent controls which implement WHA Resolutions
and which ensure that health and the rights of women and
children are not forgotten in the drive to increase trade.
Nestlé
is the world's largest food company, which continues to
market baby milk and foods products irresponsibly, is the
focus of a 19-country international boycott.
