Tigers - feature film on the baby milk issue to premiere at Toronto International Film Festival

Baby Milk Action is delighted that the film Tigers will receive its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) next month (screenshot above).

Here is a taster from the programme notes.

Devastated when he discovers the effects of the infant formula he’s peddling, a young salesman challenges the system and the powers that be, in this based-on-fact drama from Academy Award-winning director Danis Tanovic (No Man’s Land).

In a neat piece of narrative structuring on Tanovic’s part, this David-and-Goliath story is told partially through the eyes of a film crew making a documentary on Ayan’s astonishing findings.

We will keep you updated with breaking news about this film – and let you know how you can help arrange to have it shown at your local cinema if you can’t make it to Toronto!

One thing you can do right now is share our special Tigers webpage – or forward this email.

Tigers – a film with a pedigree

Our Campaign blog explains that Tigers is not just a film that will bring the baby milk issue to a mass audience, it is a film with a pedigree.

Director Danis Tanovic is an Oscar (Academy Award) winner for No Man’s Land, which took Best Foreign Language Film in 2002 – and many other prestigious awards besides.

Emraan Hashmi stars as the salesman Ayan, who one day is, ‘devastated to see first-hand what the selling of baby formula really means in certain cases. Shocked, Ayan sets out to challenge the system and the powers that be.’

Emraan is a very popular Bollywood actor and his involvement has already generated hundreds of articles since the announcement of the premiere date this week.

There are other big names in the film. Danny Huston and Maryam D’Abo have a long list of credits. (Maryam, for example, starred in the James Bond film, The Living Daylights.)

The screenplay is credited to both Danis and Andy Paterson. Andy is also listed as a producer; his past productions include Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Railwayman, and Hilary and Jackie.

Other producers have been responsible for films such as The Lunchbox.

Many others involved could also be highlighted. This is quite a team and it will be an exceptional film.
