Delve into Nestlé's defence of its latest global baby milk marketing scam

Thousands of people have emailed Nestlé over its latest global baby milk marketing scam: Nestlé has added colourful logos claiming its formula 'protects' babies to labels in 120 countries.

In response to the campaign, Nestlé has finally admitted that adding ingredients highlighted in the 'protect' logos, such as DHA and ARA, to formula has 'no proven benefit'.

Nestlé is trying to justify continuing to use the logos despite this (and the fact that logos and idealising claims are prohibited by the international marketing standards). We are going to respond in detail - and we thought you might like to help investigate.

Take a look at our Crowdsourcing experiment:

For example, Nestlé cites an expert paper that recommends that DHA and ARA are added to formula. Locate the paper and you find it was funded by Martek Biosciences Corporation. Martek is the company that supplies DHA and ARA additives to the formula industry. Nestlé forgot to mention that relevant fact.

What else will you be able to find out?

We do need to keep up the pressure on Nestlé to abide by the marketing standards, so encourage people to send the company an email.
